How to hang a fish extender

Magnetic hooks on the metal door frame, the cord over the hook, the fish left in view, and no tape or nails. How to hang your FE and take it down.

Stateroom doors and frames are metal, so magnets do all the work. You need two strong magnetic hooks and a few minutes on embarkation day.

Step by step

  • Put a magnetic hook on the metal frame, above the fish by the door.
  • Loop the FE's cord over the hook. Use a second hook if it swings.
  • Check the fish is still visible. It is the cabin's own note box, so don't cover it.
  • Make sure the pockets open towards the hallway so gifts drop straight in.

Good to know

  • A full FE gets heavier through the week. Pick hooks marked for more weight than you think you need.
  • Pack the hooks in your carry-on so you can hang it before your luggage arrives.
  • Keep the FE clear of the door handle and the key card reader.

Taking it down

On the last night, empty the pockets, fold the FE flat and pack the hooks with it. Luggage goes out that night, so put it in the bag you keep with you.
